Due to its international production (West Germany and Italy), the actors were often dubbed in different versions. For instance, Cinzia De Carolis provided the Italian voice for Eva Ionesco Cast Background: Eva Ionesco Sven Valsecchi portrays Fabrizio, a young boy spending
As their relationship escalates, Fabrizio seduces Laura in a cave they discover among ancient ruins. Their dynamic is upended by the arrival of a mysterious third girl, Sylvia, played by Eva Ionesco, who was also 12 years old during filming. Unlike the sweet, naive Laura, Sylvia is confident, manipulative, and assertive. She quickly usurps Laura’s place, and together with Fabrizio, the duo subjects Laura to escalating cruelty. Their games become sadistic, including a horrific scene where they hunt Laura with bows and arrows and force her to watch them have sex. The film culminates in a senseless tragedy, underscoring the cruel and unforgiving nature of adolescence.
Despite her early start, Maladolescenza remained the most controversial entry in her filmography. Wendel continued acting until 1993, largely in Italian films. In the 1980s, she became a familiar face in European horror cinema, appearing in films directed by genre icons like Dario Argento ( Tenebrae , 1982) and Joe D'Amato. She also appeared in the U.S.-Italian co-production, Ghosthouse (1988). After retiring from acting, Lara Wendel retreated from the public eye. Today, she lives a life completely removed from the spotlight, leaving her infamous role as Laura far behind.
As of 2025, Ionesco has spoken about her commitment to art as a way of breathing and processing her past, merging her creative life with social causes.
